Tablescape Thursday...Dining Al Fresco...

Please indulge me as I share another round of inspiration for dining in the great outdoors!
I just returned a few days ago from a long weekend in Alexandria VA to celebrate my brother's wedding only to be leaving again to go to New England to do a special PINK Tea for about 20 ladies!
In between, all my creativity has been focused on preparing for the Tea, creating next weeks newsletter (BTW, if you haven't already signed up for my free bimonthly newsletter you can do so at the top right corner of the page...next week will feature some ideas for Mother's Day!) unpacking, doing laundry and re-packing! Along with getting all the favors wrapped and some of the food prepared ahead.
The upside to all this is that NEXT week...I'll have some FABulous pictures to share with you!
For now...please join me in my dream journey of dining "al fresco"...

If I were an International Jet-Setter, I would have a rooftop penthouse in New York City! The penthouse would have an outdoor patio like this one, except I would have lots of colorful blooming flowers in beautiful urns all around. Hydrangeas, roses, lavender, geraniums, pansies, peonies, lilacs, daisies and more...and of course, a gardener! The patio would have covered areas with french daybeds and vintage bistro sets and lots of candlelight...and billowy gauzy white curtains enveloping them. If...I were an International Jet-Setter...which I am not!

Now these tablescapes and settings I can do! Because... I am a woman who loves to set a pretty table outside in the garden or on the deck...both of which I DO have! Lucky me!

Isn't this tablesetting from Martha Stewart so adorable?! Bird nest centerpieces filled with peonies running down the center of the table...romantic casual elegance! Then a smaller version has been set atop each place setting and is used to prop up the place card...romantic casual elegance...all the way!

These two pics, from Fotobank, really captured my attention! Althought they depict two very different color schemes, both are warm and welcoming and really showcase delights from the garden. One being flowers, the other herbs.
Wouldn't you just love to dine at one of these tables? Smooth jazz or light classical music playing in the background...warm and breezy summer evening...I am so there!

This last pic from Williams-Sonoma looks like it's set for one of my favorites...an Elegant Summer Buffet! Just look at those hydrangea! It looks like we've missed the main course and have arrived just in time for dessert....hmmmm...that was great planning now, wasn't it?!

Thank you for joining me on my "al fresco" journey...next week will be a real treat, I promise!

Now...you must go on over to Between Naps on the Porch, say hello to our FABulous hostess, Susan and then stop by each of the Tablescape Divas that are participating in this most fun event!

You've been busy. I too would love a penthouse rooftop patio in NY. That would be such a dream. I thin the way you would decorate yours would be just perfect. The beautiful garden tablescapes are just stunning. Such a fabulous way to just leave the world behind for a while and enjoy all of the pretty nature provided by our precious Lord. Thanks for the dreams. Hugs, Marty

Very pretty!
Believe me, the noise from the street is pretty loud! Your deck or porch is much better. It is not all that it is cracked up to be..but then some love the noise of the city..honking, emerg vehicles...I like the country better. When I visit the city, I am glad to get home

You sound just like me, just came from the Caribbean 2 weeks ago and then leaving for Chicago on Friday and in b/w, been working on projects in the garden and moving and organizing furniture around the house. I am so stiff! Love all the pictures, thanks for sharing them with us...Christine

Oh what lovely inspiration photos! How wonderful it would be to have a rooftop garden -- secluded in the middle of the city, great views, and NO DEER to eat all your plants!

Ah, to dream! I loved that rooftop garden, but your vision is so awesome, I think I would prefer it. I also loved the Martha Stewart nest idea - so doable!

I would be honored to sit down to any of these tablescape. Nothing like dinning on a roof top.

Hi Kathleen, Here is an answer to that drooping, dead flower question I asked,
The problem is air pockets or embolisms in the stems. When you get them you need to recut the stems but you must do it under water (the stem, not you)so that a drop of water will cling to the end as you transfer this to your vase that already has water in it. That drop of water will keep out the air and the stem won't be blocked.

Those are all lovely tables. I like to see pictures like that for inspiration. I am going to try to remember the nests with flowers in when my peonies bloom.

Oh my gosh, I am so glad I came over here! My husband and I were just talking last night that we would like to start holding monthly dinner parties at our house and how we want to buy all the fancy dishware and decorate the table and the whole bit! Yes, it was my husbands idea!

Hi Kathleen,
I appreciate your lovely inspiration! I have been all about al fresco dining lately. I have plans for a mini-redo of my back deck so I am searching out great designs and inspiration. :-)

If you were a jetsetter with a rooftop penthouse and I lived in the other penthouse across the sky I would join you for a fabulous al fresco experience and then the next day we would visit MacKenzie Childs tearoom for a fabulous lunch...if we were penthouse dweller neighbors! xoxo Nancy

OK you had me with the peonies. Love peonies!

Gorgeous inspiration, thanks!

When I lived in NYC, we had a roof, but not a patio, lol. Think tar paper and water tank!

Not particularly romantic. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Kathleen,
I am new to your blog and it is beautiful. I have a question for you, but please don't find it strange. Did you at one time (10 years or so ago)go to Christ Community Church or maybe you still do? I have moved from the area since then.

Tea Time is what I always waiting each day, because I'm a tea lover. Candlelit dinner at the rooftop penthouse is such a very sweet moment. I love surprises, and that kind of surprises will give me an answer of "yes".
